Shea butter is a byproduct of shea nuts that are harvested from the Vitellaria paradoxa tree in West Africa. Shea butter is produced through an arduous process of harvesting, washing, and preparing the shea nuts from which oil is then extracted. The shea tree is also known as the “karite tree” (which means “tree of life”) because of its many healing properties.
Benefits of Shea Butter Skin:
Moisturizing
Shea butter is also very moisturizing for the hair and scalp. People with curly and coarse hair textures benefit from using shea butter as a sealant to keep moisture in their hair and increase softness.Anti-inflammatory, bacterial and fungal
Shea butter helps your skin react less to irritants. Helps with psoriasis, eczema on the skin and soothes itchiness and dryness. It reduces breakouts such as acne with its antibacterial properties, fighting those skin borne bacteria and fungi causing pimples and acne.
Even skin tone
Shea Butter is filled with vitamin A and E which are perfect for evening out your skin tone giving you a beautiful glow. Fighting those stubborn dark spots.
Stretch Marks
It also helps with stretch marks by adding elasticity back into your skin and preventing stretch marks from occuring.
Hair Care - Prevents breakage
It has a high fatty acid content (just like shea butter), which makes it easy for it to penetrate hair in oil form. This can help with hair breakage.
Moisturizing
Filled with Vitamins A and E along with essential fatty acids, shea butter has both emollient and healing properties for the skin. Some of these ingredients, such as the high content of fatty acids in shea butter, are also thought to help add moisture to your hair. This might possibly reduce dryness and prevent split ends. Fatty acids also help increase shine and reduce the frizz of your hair. It may also help protect hair from heat damage caused by flat irons and blow drying.
Reduces scalp irritation
Shea butter’s anti-inflammatory properties might also help reduce redness and scalp irritation by providing healing effects without clogging the pores. Additionally, as a natural product, it’s safe to use on all types of hair, even hair that’s damaged, dry, or color treated.
Raw shea butter isn’t the only hair care solution available. Certain over-the-counter hair care products (especially conditioners) also contain shea butter. The role of conditioners in overall hair health includes strengthening hair fibers, lubricating cuticles, and reducing frizz.
The Shea butter has a strong nutty smell, very organic and natural scent. Add some essential oils to change the scent and make it more pleasant. Store at room temperature.
Uses:
Use as is on your hair and skin or simply whip it into a more lotion consistency to allow for easier application.

Absolutely love this product, It keeps my 4c hair moisturized and hydrated. I have managed to use it for more than 6 months because a little goes a long long way.
My ultimate favourite product of the lot! Because I suffer(ed) from pityriasis rosea, I have to steer clear from fragrant products and decided to give baby a go (less than 6 months ago- I think). My skin absolutely loves this gem and slowly but surely I can see the marks on my body fade. I am not a committed naturalista but dabble with curls time and again... and man! This product comes through every time. Whether on dry or wet hair, my curls be popping. My hair has been keratin treated, yet when i use the bantu knot method this shea butter, one would never tell. Love! Love! Love! What are you waiting for? Get yours already!!
This grapeseed Butter has been my fav by far. It is a staple in my regimen - Type 3 Low Porosity hair. It always leaves my hair hydrated and lasts for a few days. I also use it on my skin, struggling with hives and you know those ugly pimple marks, this butter has done the trick.
Laetitia Piers
founder & director
Shea by Design (Est. 2018) was born by an innovative and passionate woman looking to give fellow naturals a product that is more affordable and organic while giving them the most significant results. Shea by Design’s founder, Laetitia Piers, started her natural hair journey in March 2017. She started transitioning for few months until April 2017 when she did the big chop. She blogged all about it on her page Curly Tisha and her blog, you can read all about it by clicking on those links. Her love for research is innate because she is a scientist by profession. Thus, her love for researching products used by naturals and blogging about her natural hair was inevitable. Throughout her natural hair journey and since the start of her page and blog, she’s been contacted by other naturals that need products specially designed for their hair, and essentially that’s how Shea by Design was born. She saw the opportunity to design these products for naturals who need them and make these quality products available to them at a more affordable price than most retailers.
